The 2022 Great 48 Jam

Bakersfield, CA

Thursday, January 6 – Sunday, January 9, 2022

We are finally back and getting ready for the Great 48!  This is a jamming event, so tune up your guitar, rosin up that fiddle bow, and get ready to pick 24/7. You can play music in the beautiful courtyard and all day and night on designated jamming floors. When you get hungry (for something besides music), check out The Nines Restaurant or the MI Greatroom Lounge & Bar, which is  conveniently located in the hotel. Bakersfield is known for its regional Basque cuisine as well as other International and American fare, all close-by the Marriott. Any visit to Bakersfield should also include a visit to the legendary Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace, birthplace of the Bakersfield sound.

The Bakersfield location – equidistant from San Diego and San Francisco – was selected specifically to bring together Southern and Northern California Bluegrassers and Old-time players.  The hotel is within walking distance of the Amtrak station and adjacent to numerous eateries in newly renovated downtown Bakersfield. Beginner-to-advanced pickers from all over the US make the annual trek to Bakersfield to enjoy non-stop jamming, workshops, nightly showcase bands, and Saturday night open mic with great bands.

In a change from past scheduling, the 2022 event will host a staggered workshop schedule, which will allow folks to attend more than one workshop. Details regarding this year’s Friday night professional band performance will be announced soon.  Keep checking this page for updated information.

Amtrak is a great way to travel to the G48 Jam. CBA members often organize a jam car for the Amtrak trip from the Bay Area to get an early start on G48 picking.  Stay tuned on the CBA website for updates!

While the Great 48 is open to all Bluegrassers, we would like to let everyone know that the event is growing every year and guest rooms historically fill up quickly. Fortunately, several hotels are located within walking distance of the Marriott and can comfortably accommodate any overflow crowd. Please read on for reservation details.

COVID Policy

CBA is committed to keeping everyone safe during the COVID-19 Pandemic. Toward that goal, we will be implementing the following protocols for this year’s Great 48:

Great 48 attendees are required to show a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours of the event OR proof of full vaccination for COVID-19. Please check in at the CBA Welcome desk to obtain your wristband.

Are recommended when indoors, especially in crowded areas. Masks will be required for those attending the Friday and Saturday evening concerts in the Marriott Ballroom.

The Marriott Bakersfield Convention Center has implemented a variety of new protocols and elevated practices, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and keeping with their high standards of cleanliness.  See our FAQ’s for more information

We are raffling off a brand-new Deering Goodtime Two Banjo and a Paul Beard signature resophonic guitar by Gold Tone.

Many thanks to Deering for sponsoring South State 48 and for being such a great supporter of CBA for so many years!. This iconic SoCal banjo company is located in Spring Valley, California, just 10 miles east of downtown San Diego.

The Raffle ticket sale closes January 8th, 2022.  The drawing will take place at the Great 48. You don’t need to be present to win. Raffle tickets are $5 per ticket or $25 for six tickets.

You can purchase tickets in person at the Great 48 or order them by mail. To order tickets by mail, click HERE to download and print the order form.
