The Tony Rice Signature Model represents over 30 years of collaboration between Santa Cruz Guitar Company’s founding luthier, Richard Hoover, and the guitarist who redefined the role of the guitar in Bluegrass music. Since the mid 1970s, Tony has inspired countless guitarists – as much for his legendary tone, as for his stellar lead work which reflected influences from Clarence White to John Coltrane.

Today’s model incorporates decades of refinement in response to players’ demands and the sophisticated evolution of the master’s technique. The Tony Rice Signature Model is voiced to deliver exactly what the contemporary flat-picking artist

needs. It rings with substantial treble and midrange for rapid single-line leads. Clean note separation provides chord definition and traditional bass boom, but without a woofy bottom end. Further touches in the CBA Raffle guitar that combine to deliver a gorgeous, responsive instrument with professional presence include scalloped bracing, mahogany neck, ebony peg head overlay, ebony fingerboard (with SCGC inlaid at the 12th fret), ebony bridge, ebony bridge pins with mother-of-pearl inserts, herringbone rosette and purfling, ivoroid binding, nickel Waverly tuning machines, gloss finish, and a tortoise-style pickguard.

Win this Taylor Guitar!

The Taylor Guitar Company has graciously donated an AD17 Grand Pacific Model guitar from their American Dream Series to the California Bluegrass Association for the Turn Your Radio OnLine Raffle.

  • Warm, seasoned sound with powerful low-end presence
  • Clear bass range without muddiness
  • Round notes that blend seamlessly into a harmonic whole

The Grand Pacific model is a round-shoulder dreadnought that delivers a new flavor of warm, rich Taylor tone. It features a back and sides of solid Ovangkol, an African tonewood that shares rosewood’s warmth and brilliance with additional presence in the midrange. Topped with solid Sitka Spruce, the AD17 serves up a blend of sparkle and clean low-end power, enhanced by V-Class bracing (Taylor’s revolutionary design that balances the flexibility and stability of the soundboard for greater volume & projection, longer sustain, and improved intonation and tonal consistency from top to bottom).

That seasoned, vintage-hued tone is reflected in this model’s strikingly classic look, with a natural top and a deep Urban Sienna color treatment for the Ovangkol back and sides. Minimally decorated but finely crafted, the AD17 also features chamfered body edges, stained spruce edge trim, a three-ring rosette in Hawaiian Koa, and a faux tortoiseshell pickguard. The 2.0 mil-thick matte body finish minimizes damping for unfettered resonance, and a Tropical Mahogany neck, Eucalyptus fretboard & headstock overlay, and nickel tuning machines complete the build.

The Grand Pacific brings broader versatility to a dreadnought-style guitar, promising to satisfy players across many genres and musical styles.

It ships in a Taylor AeroCase.
