Evan Murphy was born and raised in the Boston area. He started singing as a kid, and finally picked up a guitar at seventeen after getting tired of asking people to accompany him all the time. His childhood was spent absorbing the music of Bruce Springsteen and James Taylor. At Boston College, where he received his degree in Theater and Music, Evan fell in love with folk and bluegrass. He dove head first into Boston’s rich acoustic music scene and became a regular at the Cantab Bluegrass Tuesdays. There he met some of the musicians who would become his bandmates. Mile Twelve was formed in late 2014, and played its first show at the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival in February of 2015. Since its inception, Mile Twelve has toured internationally, been awarded the IBMA’s new artist of the year and been nominated for album of the year. Evan has been featured in IBMA’s songwriter showcase and was nominated for a momentum award as male vocalist of the year. He lives and teaches in Boston, with his amazing wife and very sweet golden retriever.
