The Rounder Circle

The Rounder Circle’s sound is rooted in traditional Bluegrass but extends far beyond the genre. Their repertoire blends Bluegrass with grooves from Country and Western Swing, a nod to Dawg Music, and even the occasional contemporary pop tune reimagined in their unique style.

The group has written an extensive collection of original songs that weave these musical threads together. Sometimes they tackle contemporary themes or make social commentary, while other times they sing some good old-fashioned nonsense. When they get tired of their own voices, The Rounder Circle will happily rip some fiddle tunes and especially appreciates an audience who knows how to get on their feet and dance. No matter the genre, their material stays anchored in the spirit of Bluegrass, featuring fast-paced instrumental breaks and tight vocal harmonies. They love having fun on stage and hope you’ll have fun alongside them!

The Rounder Circle was formed in the spring of 2024, initially coming together as an impromptu band to play a one-off gig. Their chemistry was instant, and they decided to stick together. Since then, the group has played shows throughout the Bay Area and recorded their debut studio album. The Rounder Circle features Hilary Nelson (Guitar & Vocals), Thomas Hatcher (Mandolin & Vocals), Ilan Ladabaum (Fiddle & Vocals), and newest addition Helen Foley (Upright Bass & Vocals). All four have distinct musical backgrounds and inspirations, but are brought together by a love of Bluegrass and a desire to push the genre’s boundaries.

The Rounder Circle believes music should stay grounded in the lives and sounds of everyday people. Their goal is to create a sound that feels both fresh and familiar, reflecting the joys and pitfalls of real life. Above all, they play music because they love having fun and want to share the joy of music with anyone willing to join the Circle.
