Bluegrass and Old-Time Music are thriving in the Central San Joaquin Valley. On May 13th we kicked off the 14th season of free Friday concerts in Clovis with Bluegrass in the Park. The perennial favorites, The GrassKickers, were the opening band. The Sharecroppers, Two for the Road with special guest Terry Barrett, and Red Dog Ash were featured on the next three Fridays. Unfortunately, our weather luck ran out and Sycamore Bend, slated to play June 10th, had to cancel due to a forecast high of 106. With crossed fingers the following bands will appear throughout June and July and into August: Uncle Ephus, Ripe for Pickin’, Sugar Pine, Terry Barrett and Evo Bluestein, The Celtic Roots of American Trad Music (with three separate local bands), Grass Less Traveled and The GillyGirls Band. On October 29th five local and regional bands will perform at the 4th Annual Harvest Home: A Festival of Traditional Americana Music at the River Center, Fresno on the San Joaquin River. The line-up includes the GillyGirls Band (bluegrass and gospel), Dos Valley Trio (old-time), Pipe on the Hob (Celtic), The Bad Actors (bluegrass) and Sycamore Bend (original and trad bluegrass).
Our monthly indoor Bluegrass jams have been temporarily suspended during the upswing in new Covid cases but hopefully the jams will return in the future.
