I’ve been teaching for 60(!) years. I love to demystify music for my students.
I teach banjo, not only three-finger and clawhammer, but how to arrange slow pretty songs for banjo. I was lucky to have the support of my banjo teachers, especially Herb Pedersen, Rick Shubb, and Jerry Garcia.
On dobro, I teach G tuning and D tuning. The first time I played dobro live and in public with a bluegrass band was in 1964 with Jerry Garcia’s band.
I also teach pedal steel and actually was the first pedal steel player to play at the Fathers’ Day Festival.
I play professionally. I have Gold, Platinum, and Double Platinum albums to my credit (one each). I’ve performed and recorded with the Grateful Dead, Guy Clark, Hoyt Axton, and the Dillards, to mention a few.
