Lucas Lawson & The Unturned Stone melodically and harmonically consists of songwriter, singer, and guitarist Lucas Lawson, mandolinist Leland Mackessy, and bassist Jess L’Heureux. Hailing from Santa Cruz, California, these three young musicians, all raised on different music, have found strength together, centering back around the beauty and honesty of acoustic music. Together, they intertwine their voices and instruments in a gesture of grace and expression to continue the bluegrass/Americana sound in Lucas’s own mellow and melodic songs.
Lucas Lawson grew up on a small farm just north of Santa Cruz, where he learned to play guitar at seven. Along with his musical influences, such as artists Neil Young, Watchhouse, John Denver, Joni Mitchell, Led Zeppelin, Gillian Welch, and Jackson Browne, this upbringing influenced him to try to bring positive and successful change one community at a time by sharing emotion and introspection through music. Lucas pays his respects to the land, our customs, and communities through transformative lyrics and heartfelt melodies, forging a bond with listeners who have endured struggles akin to his own. Lucas shares, “It’s also crucial to me that I, as an artist, use my platform to contribute to meaningful change in our world.”
