Tony Wray and Tim Crouch:  Ultimate Bluegrass Gospel

Song List:  What A Friend We Have in Jesus, In the Garden, Just A Closer Walk With Thee, Blessed Assurance, Softly and Tenderly, Life’s Railway to Heaven, Mansion Over the Hilltop, How Great Thou Art, Pass Me Not, Sweet Hour of Prayer.

Tony’s guitar and Tim’s fiddle has been featured on many of Pinecastle’s projects and this collection is part of their Ultimate instrumental series.  All of the songs are familiar and with the exception of a banjo driven “Life’s Railway to Heaven,” the songs are slower paced with guitar and fiddle playing the melody and backup.  The songs are familiar and would be useful in settings where a soothing backdrop is necessary and guitarists will find the collection inspiring for instrumental practice.

Song List:  The Lord Is Good To Me, Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo, I’ve Got No Strings, A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes, Zip A Dee Doo Dah, Baby Mine, Cruella De Ville, Bare Necessities, When You Wish Upon A Star, Supercalifragilisticexpilalidocious.

Bluegrass and Disney are not a common connection, but Tony Wray and Tim Crouch gathered some favorite songs and singers, and produced an enjoyable collection of songs that may have enchanted you as a child and bring happy thoughts to you as an adult.  Dale Ann Bradley’s rendition of the gentle lullaby “Baby Mine” from the original and current Dumbo movie is worth the price of admission alone.  Dale Ann’s voice has a magical cooing quality and the love of momma and baby just flows through every note.

“Supercalifragililsticexpialidocious” begins with a rousing banjo flourish and bounces along quite happily.  Magical phrases of “Zip a Dee DooDah” and “Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo” also bounce along with warm vocals and fiddle and banjo accompaniment.  With so many new versions of Pinocchio appearing in the theatres, the songs from Disney’s original movie, “When You Wish Upon a Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings” may be popular again.  The instrumental “Cruella De Ville” features guitar, piano, and harmonica.  This is a fun collaboration and may inspire bluegrassers to add some new songs to their jam list.
