Aug 18, 2015 | Welcome Column

Good morning from Whiskey Creek, where the collective flora is learning the hard, cold truth about what a CRASH DIET really means. 100% of the property’s electronic timers have been replaced by MECHANICAL timers, which require the user to turn them on for X amount of time and they turn themselves off. This means that every single day I manually water on about fifteen irrigation lines, OR I DON’T, depending on how the plants are looking. No more watering once a day whether they need it or not. Anyways, that’s what’s up here. Now, for what’s up with the California Bluegrass Association…

You know, of course, about the new web site because, after all, you’re looking at it right now. Thanks to the many, many people who are writing us with fixes that need to be made. We’re making changes as quickly as we can and, most importantly, we’ve got a system in place to ensure that none fall through the cracks. As we’ve said, it’ll be a couple months before everything is as it should be.

And speaking of the new web site, in an effort to jump start the new Message Board we’re running a contest. Here’s the skinny…

The contest is simple. Between now and the CBA’s Fall Camp Out (October 19-25):

1. Go to the Message Board on the new CBA web site.

2.If you already have an account, click “Profile”, top right, and add a
head shot to your profile; if you don’t have an account, create one and
add your head shot.

3. Post a message stating who you’d like Lynn to paint for you.

IMPORTANT NOTE: ONLY ONE SUBJECT…YOUR DOG, YOUR CAT, YOUR KID, ETC…WILL BE PAINTED IN THE PORTRAIT.

That’s it!

If you haven’t seen Lynn’s water colors, visit her web site at http://lynncornishwatercolors.com.

You may have also noticed the announcement at the bottom of the splash page today re: Life-Long Membership. Here’s the deal…

After nearly forty years of discussion, (yes, some decisions take longer than others,) the CBA board of directors is announcing the availability of LIFE-LONG MEMBERSHIPS. Here’s the motion that was made and carried at the August board meeting:

Lifelong Memberships
Motion: The CBA will offer “Lifelong Memberships” at a price of $1000 per couple / $750 per individual
Moved: Maria Nadauld
Second: Jim Ingram
Carried: with two opposed

Staff is in the process of revising membership forms, but if you’d like to become one of the first life-long members, just drop our Membership V.P. a note and he’ll fix you right up.

Larry Phegley

We’ve revised the membership form and it will appear in next month’s Breakdown. We fully understand that life-long memberships aren’t for everyone, but at least now folks have the option.

Of course our Fall Camp Out is coming up in October and David Brace is on the look out once again for volunteers to work the gate. You can contact him at dhb1221@me.com. We’ll have a Saturday night dinner again this year, ten bucks, and, of course, we’ll announce the 2015 board election results. The Lodi Grape Festival site is really quite nice so, please, mark your calendar…October 19 through 25.

Jim Ingram’s been keeping us up to date on the FDF line-up as it begins to emerge. So far we’ve booked the Gibson Brothers, Danny Paisley and Southern Grass and a new trio that’s been getting some nice gigs around the country these days, Crary, Evans and Spurgin. Early Bird Tickets will be available before you know it, so keep an eagle eye out for their announcement.

Okay, I could go on and on but I’ve got sooooo much work to do on this new web site. Watch for Bruce Campbell here tomorrow.
