The Daily Grist: “I never met a man I didn’t like” Will Rogers
Division is really hard. Just ask any third grader struggling with their math assignment. Other divisions are even more traumatic. We have seen deep divisions boil over in a way recently that we could never have imagined, at least not here in the cradle of democracy.
Don’t worry. I am not about to launch into a political diatribe here. To paraphrase Will Rogers again, I am not a member of any organized political party. I’m a republican. But as my once fellow welcome columnist Ron Thomason would say, I told you that to tell you this.
We need less “social” media and more social gatherings. For all its ballyhoo about making people more connected via technology, the social media experiment in my opinion has been a disaster in social science. It’s like forcing all your relatives together for Thanksgiving. Some families will be at each other’s throats in a matter of no time!
Our struggling CBA should be the perfect place for many of us to establish connection with others that is truly social. Sadly our membership has split somewhat during recent years. I don’t really know why some long time members have abandoned ship but I suspect that some of it may revolve around reading so and so’s Facebook post and coming to the conclusion that maybe I don’t like them anyway.
I hope the new year brings us all health. Mental, physical and spiritual. I look forward to gatherings with musicians who are like minded in their musical sensibilities and to heck with anything else. We did not have the Bakersfield Great 48 this weekend but I am hopeful we will have it next year. We have some healing to do.
