Foibles, Bon Mots, and Thoughts

Rest in Peace Tony Rice. You will be missed.

“It’s never to late to be what you might have been.”  George Eliot

When life is sweet say thank you and celebrate. When life is bitter, say thank you and grow.”  Shauna Niewuist

“The bad news is that time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.”

Michael Alshuler

A joyous happy new year to you all. An early 85th  Happy Birthday to Rick.

To the year 2020. Good riddance, farewell, good bye, adios, adieu, ta ta, ciao, auf weidersehen, see you later, don’t let the door hit you on the way out, and get the Hell out of Dodge.

I was saddened with the rest of you to read that for the second year our Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival was being  cancelled. I do think it it is much better to make this decision now than to whistle through the graveyard at midnight hoping that things will completely turn around providing us with false hope that the CBA could put the festival on in 2021.

Of course we are not the first Americans to suffer through tough times. Those before us struggled through the 1918 pandemic, two World Wars, the Depression, the Dust Bowl, Korea,McCarthy, and Watergate. It sounds corny but Americans became stronger due to these hard times. Ironically that strength might have given us a sense of false safety and security. We now have had the Covid 19 pandemic draped over us like a  black bleak funeral shroud.

Our new president has informed us that things will get worse before they get better. This is a disturbing, frustrating, outlook but someone once said it is always darkest before the dawn.Let’s view this as the much awaited needed silver lining. It appears to be about 4 A.M. in America right now. The Covid vaccine is being distributed for speedy distribution to nurses and doctors. That light at the end of the tunnel could be Mr. Sun illuminating a safe and sane path back to our pre Covid 19 lives.

Let’s hope that Father’s Day 2021 will find the CBA Board busily making plans for a huge Welcome Back Father’s Day Festival Blow out event in 2022 letting everyone know we are back in the saddle, riding tall, and becoming stronger everyday.

A call out to CBA members. I need your help.

Do you remember any of the CBA Mid-Summer Bluegrass Festivals? My father and I attended a  couple of shows sometime from1987-1993. Hearing the sad news from my sister that Tony Rice had passed away started me thinking. I thought dad and I had seen a mid-summer show with Tony with one other artist. I thought the other artist was Mark O’Connor. I am probably wrong but I do know there were two accomplished artists on the CBA  stage.

I also remember that the two of them sat down in began  chairs began chatting and then performing songs off the cuff. They would chat and joke then play another song etc. It was just the two of the. No other musicians were on the stage. They ad-libbed not using a set list.  If any one out there has any information please let me know.
