Foibles, Bon Mots and Thoughts

Jun 4, 2021 | Welcome Column

If memory serves me correctly, I predicted back in January or February that this pandemic mess is about to get a bit better at least for us here in the USA. Responsible folks are heeding the call to get vaccinated. California along with the rest of the country looks like it is set for a productive “soft” opening for our businesses, restaurants, etc.

As a warmup my sister Maria, two of her close friends and yours truly attended the SF Giants vs. Texas Rangers game at Oracle Park in beautiful San Francisco. The Good Guys won. Listening to Tony Bennett sing “I left my heart in San Francisco” after the win was worth the price of admission,

Imagine this scenario. June 2022, Grass Valley Father’s Day Festival returns with a bang. After two years of darkness, no music, no jams, no tents, no motor homes, etc.  Grass Valley on Father’s Day weekend 2022 will once again be swinging, rocking, and swaying to seven days of nonstop blue grass jams and four days of the greatest blue grass music on our various stages.

Time to tune and re-string our instruments, limber up our fingers loosen up those vocal chords and welcome Father’s Day Blue Grass Festival 2022 with packed camp sites and smiles all around. We deserve it.

A few weeks ago, our community lost a wonderful, intelligent, talented, beautiful young lady, Lynn Cornish. Those who knew and loved her are saddened. Our lives will be that much emptier without her presence.

I have an image of Lynn climbing aboard a single note produced from a lone guitar wafting through the pines at Grass Valley. Lynn casually holds on as the note begins its long journey into the vast star lit corridors of endless space. Free of pain and filled with enthusiasm Lynn watches as twinkling stars worthy of her canvas, paint, brushes and talent are spread out endlessly before her. The shimmering stars light up Lynn’s smiling face as she picks up her paint brush. She is at peace.

Until July and the celebration of our nation’s birthday.

Read a book, hug a child, pet a dog, stroke a dog, eat a bar of chocolate, give thanks, and sing boldly, loudly and off key in the shower. And IKIRU!
