For well over forty years now, men, women and children have gathered together in various spots around Northern California for a few days during the third week in October to sing and play and dance to the music of Bill Monroe, Lester Flatt and Earl Skruggs and the Stanley Brothers. The name of the event is the California Bluegrass Association Annual Fall Camp Out and Organizational Meeting, and if it sound somewhat official, that’s because it is.
Despite the fact that the CBA is an event-driven organization that holds camp outs and festivals and workshops and instructional camps and concerts throughout the year, the fall event is the only required activity in the Association’s by-laws that is required. It’s at the Fall Camp Out each year that our Board of Directors election results are tallied, members are seated for the coming year and officers are appointed. Fitted into the business is, of course, a ton of picking, eating, carousing, visiting and stage entertainment and, boy oh boy, 2017 was no exception. So much fun!
Our new board members are each and every candidate that stood for election this year; their names can be viewed at https://www.cbaweb.org/News/Article/17225.
I want to thank those board members who have retired from the board…in particular Tim Edes, who shouldered a heavy, heavy burden as Chairman of the Board. And I also want to thank Geoff Sargent, who succeeded Tim as our new Chairman.
We have a big bunch of brand new board members who will take over the reins of our great Association. They’ve shown every indication that they understand the mission of the California Bluegrass Association and that they are committed to its achievement.
Best of luck to our new Leadership Team!
