And a Happy July the 3rd to everybody! I’m sort of in-betwixt and in-between Independence Days. Oh, GOOGLE it! I don’t have time for a history lesson today. That’s what the web is for, isn’t it. Searching for and finding information to share with others of like minds. It amazes me so, that the World Wide Web is just that. An amazing web of information that spans the globe.
I’m certain that most of us just take all of this information in without a thought of where it comes from. When in all actuality, it is up to a webmaster. Oh, there are numerous other names and/or titles for this position. But for now, we’ll just stick with Webmaster. None of the content would even be visible if it weren’t for someone putting it there. Just as I’ll be doing from a remote setting, but always under the supervision of the webmaster.
Let’s take for example, this websites webmaster. From what limited information that I am allowed to have. I am to understand the heart of this website is actually located in a bunker 400 feet below the earths surface. Someplace in a deep dark hollow up in the foothills of the Sierra Mountains. From there a massive output of information oozes onto this website. Night and day, it never stops! It just keeps coming and coming. Will it ever end? Oh yes, it may at some time, but we’ll not discuss that now. It is so far into the future. And just uttering those words I am going into hiding myself because I fear for my life now.
One thing I am sure of though. Being a webmaster is a long drawn out, tireless job that not too many people understand very well, yet. I am sure that due to non-stop activity on this here website, it must keep the webmaster on their respective “toes,” if you know what I mean. What, with a message board that sometimes is very mellow and quiet. Then all of a sudden, messages are posted by the ten’s to twenties! Thoughts are being bounced around so fast. Opinions are exposed and even friendships are ruined. All because of the “enter” key right there by our “pinky” finger. Oh, if we could only use our “pinky” finger better on the fretboard, eh? What music we would have.
The webmaster is in charge here folks. And he is doing a bang up job, I might say. In the past when I was a new user of the message board. I happened to post frequently. And on occasion I would speak my mind so profoundly, that I needed the service of the webmaster. Service in such a way that didn’t think was possible.
“Dear Webmaster, I posted a thread on the message board that I would like to have removed. Can it be removed please?” And without blinking my eyes twice, it was gone. Wow, this is amazing! Amazing I say, that what followed was possibly worse than posting my “attitude” that I didn’t want exposed any longer.
The webmaster made a separate post stating that a thread was removed. Didn’t state why. Just that it was removed. YIKES! The response from others that read the message board everyday was intense. BOO HOO I thought, I just didn’t want my thoughts out there exposed to people that didn’t want to hear them anyway. And here I’ll say, “Thank You for the service that is the webmaster’s job.” But others were scrutinizing the authority of the webmaster. Understand one thing, it is the webmaster’s job to scrutinize EVERYTHING that goes onto a website. And if it weren’t for the scrutinization of this websites webmaster, there would not be much to see on this website. That is for sure. Enjoy it!
So when you get a chance. Send out a heartfelt, “Thank You” to the webmaster of your choice. Preferably, the one that keeps this CBA website afloat. The work that is done here is managed by one person. Hour by hour, day and night, everyday of the week, year after year!
Man it must get lonely 400 feet down inside a bunker! Bluegrass music playing in the background and the quiet “hum” of the server. Ooo, ah! THANK YOU!
Thank you for listening.
