Lodi Bound and Lodi Determined

Oct 17, 2018 | Welcome Column

Many of my CBA buddies are already up in Lodi for the CBA Fall Campout, and I’ll be joining them later this week.

Just as the Spring Campout signals the start of another long California bluegrass “season”, so does the Fall Campout herald the end of one. Fortunately, in California, we can schedule an outdoor event in October and reasonably expect it to temperate enough to be enjoyable.
And enjoy it, we do! Tent and RVs are evident all over, getting that last couple of trips before being put away for the winter. THe October nights are generally nice for pickin’, and most savvy campers pack some heaters to make sure the pickin’ goes long and strong into the week, and the weekend.
It’s also the weekend where the CBA tallies the votes for the election for the Board of Directors. And this year (as in many years), it’s a microcosm of the election year choices much of the country is in the process of making.
It’s true on the CBA level, municipal level, the county level, the state level and the national level – your vote matters and it’s imperative you exercise your rights to have your voice heard.
I know for a fact that the political proclivities of the CBA members run the gamut from right to left and anywhere in between. But I also know that this wild mixture of opinions and points of view are able to come together and enjoy bluegrass together. In the end, it’s part of the glue that keeps us all interacting and enjoy this fine music and the joys of sharing it.
My weather report says mid 80’s during the days, and around 50 degrees at night! This is gonna be great!
