John Pedersen, Amazing Grace’s resident Master Luthier, has been a professional repairman since 1971. Apprenticing first with Cliff Pelton in Latham, New York, and then with Russell Gleaves in Schenectady, New York. John then worked with Jim Hale as a journeyman Luthier at the Toronto Folklore Center and then as a partner at Doctor Deadfretts Musical Remedy, with Jim Hale and Luke Wilson.
After moving to California in 1975, John ran the repair shop at The Fifth String in San Francisco before making the ultimate move to Amazing Grace in 1976. Many of the Bay Areas top professional musicians have relied on the repair shop at Amazing Grace for expert level restoration and complex repairs. While specializing in guitar, banjo, mandolin and violin repairs, many other types of instruments have crossed the bench. No job is too small or large for our shop.
