Every year around this time we eyeball different matchups and start placing bets. We like to call it March Madness. Now, I’m talking about the internationally known CBA Music Camp, the darling of the media, highly sought after, and exceptionally popular event, not the unfamiliar NCAA playoff event that barely gets any attention! I sometimes feel sorry for all those basketball players languishing in the shadow of Music Camp. Why just last week I had to turn down an interview with a major sports channel because I had a conflict with an important jam somewhere on the streets of San Francisco. And you know, it is sometimes difficult to busk anonymously in the BART stations these days because I just can’t seem to escape the hordes of fans looking for an edge to get into Music Camp. Life is so hard sometimes.
It is a little over a month after Music Camp registration opened and we are about 50% subscribed! Some classes are almost closed out so if you are looking to sign up for Bluegrass banjo level 2/3 taught by Jeff Scroggins, Bluegrass Fiddle level 2/3 taught by John Mailander, Guitar Rhythm level 1/2 taught by Jim Nunally, Guitar Solos level 2/3 taught by Chris Luquette, or Harmony Vocals level 2/3 taught by Keith Little, then you better get yer booty in gear because you are precipitously close to missing the boat or, to go with our March Madness theme, you might be throwing up an airball if you don’t register for one of those classes soon.
What always amazes me, however, are the Cinderella teams that end up winning the whole tournament, and this happens often enough that it makes tournament-watching fun. Right now we have several Music Camp equivalents of Cinderella teams and if you want to sign up for a class that might very well surpass the leaders, then I encourage you to check out Bass level 1? (Dan Booth), Guitar with Singing level1/2 (Greg Blakes), Old-Time Guitar, level 1/2 (Ben Winship), and the Bluegrass Band level 1/2 (Bill Evans), and Bluegrass Band level 2/3 (Jack Tuttle). Man, just look at that lineup of instructors…how can you not want to sign up for one of those classes!
So, the music camp registration countdown has reached “0” and if you haven’t registered, you are now officially way behind schedule. The next countdown that has started is for June 12…when music camp begins. Be sure to check out the music camp website http://cbamusiccamp.com for new information and you can get updates on which classes are still open.
For those of you who know me, you have heard me brag about going to Georgia Tech. There is a very famous, ageless, fictional student from Georgia Tech named George P Burdell who successfully signed up for many college classes, received degrees, was on the Mad Magazine Board of Directors, and was even nominated for Time magazine’s person of the year in 2001. If George P Burdell should happen to turn up on your class roster, please be kind enough to explain to your instructor what is going on!
And we would like to remind you that you can give CBA Music Camp as a gift for Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Graduation, Birthdays Valentine’s Day, and even April Fool’s Day. Check it out at our web site.
Keep the batteries fresh in your tuners, keep your strings clean and polished, and keep your picks close at hand because we’re agonna be kicking up some sand come June 12.
