One Down, One to Go!

Congratulations to the new CBA Board! They take over at a time when things anything but business as usual, but I have every confidence they will lead the Association ably through 2021 and beyond.

Congratulations to the CBA and its members for such an historic turnout, too! I remember board elections where we worried about not achieving the statutory minimum 10% voting response, and this year’s elections blew right past that mark.
The reasons for this are likely varied. The folks in the CBA embraced modern methods of communications to get the word out – that had to help. The pandemic has made even luddites more proficient users of the internet and email, and that likely helped too. It’s also a national election year and it’s possible that the high turnout is a result of national election fever.
Whatever the reason, the real winner is the California Bluegrass Association – it has a new board with an apparent mandate from the member base, and I wish them all the best!
There’s another election left, so let’s not consider ourselves cured of election fever yet. This national election looks like it will have the highest voter turnout in generations, and this should result in an administration that truly reflects the will of the people.
As in the CBA, the national election will also be boosted by alternative methods of voting. Keep in mind – on election night, the media will only be able to report on votes cast at the polls that night. The results they project that night may change (possibly dramatically) once all the earlier votes are tallied. Speaking of dramatic, the incumbent president has all but promised he will seek to declare the election invalid if he doesn’t like the results.
More than anything this tells us that we need to stay committed to be involved in the process – there should be a large turnout in every election, whether it’s the CBA, or county-wide, statewide or national. Keep the pressure on, everyone, and be heard!
