This is not your Fleetwood Mac column or some aberration from the Bluegrass path! It might even be somewhat nefarious (nawww not really). But, with all this weather we have been hit with lately…all of May’s rain for the SF Bay area in one day with more on the horizon, it makes you wonder, is this going to be the reincarnation of the mythological “Mudfest”? Are we going to be camping in the midst of a swamp, should I pack some pallets to pitch my tent and have a dry floor to sleep on (had to do that one and I hope you see the song reference), or maybe I should pack a bunkbed and space heater for sleeping and picking in the bathrooms. I haven’t looked at the forecast for mid-June yet but given that the past couple of FDFs have had some unusually cold weather, I fear that anything is possible. I still have my whitewater kayaks and windsurf board I could bring to get around on if the water is too deep for the golf carts, but I would rather not schlep them up to Grass Valley. The good news/bad news is that the Strawberry Festival will happen next week and the CBA board will be on site next Saturday to check out what the grounds actually look like and we are planning to have the board meeting in Grass Valley that day. The bad news part of Strawberry is I wonder if all that foot traffic will help to set the stage, so to speak, for the “mud” part of mudfest. We shall see! In any case, folks watch your weather and come prepared for enjoying the FDF come rain or shine. One last thing…I missed posting a couple of Sunday columns. Some of you know that I started a new company last year and it has been a rather intense experience doing the lab work, filing patents, and raising money…sorry for the diversion and absent missives.
One last thing….Lisa Burns has done a fantastic job getting sponsors for the festival and one of the sponsors this year is the Grass Valley Raley’s Supermarket where many of us go to buy our food and other supplies. If you visit Raley’s this year during the festival, please let them know you are attending the FDF and thank them for their sponsorship.
