Bluegrass Banjo 1-2

My class will cover the essentials necessary to play straight ahead Bluegrass with emphasis on timing, tone, taste, and repertoire. We will cover some straight ahead Scruggs/Crowe arrangements and explore nuance, as well as study some melodic/single string arrangements with the goal of improving flexibility and expanding improvisation. As a singer who also plays banjo, I will share my thoughts and tips on how to accompany oneself with the banjo and how to successfully play in band setting. I have played equally as much Old Time music as Bluegrass, and now more than ever before Bluegrass musicians are taking an interest in Old Time and the genres are becoming intertwined, much as they were in the beginning. I will share some of my Old Time banjo techniques and teach some crossover tunes. Finally, I can guarantee that everyone will leave the course with their banjos sounding better, as I will be available for setup help throughout the week. I look forward to working with the students at this year’s CBA camp!
