Hi, I’m Miles. I started teaching fiddle at the age of 12, through the Manning Music Studio in Berkeley, CA. Chad and Catherine Manning own the Studio and were actually two of my very first fiddle teachers (and now good friends!).
I love teaching fiddle, whether it’s bluegrass or jazz. I also enjoy music theory, so if you need help with that, we can work on it. We can meet in my Alameda backyard or online through Zoom/Facetime/Skype. I charge $50/hour.
BIO:
Miles Quale is a fiddler from Alameda, CA who plays bluegrass fiddle with a fierce edge, playing dynamic and inventive solos with a melodic sophistication. He also enjoys playing jazz violin and has performed with Justin Ouellet, Kev Choice and Mads Tolling. Miles has had the privilege of playing with many phenomenal musicians including Brittany Haas, Sean Watkins, John Reischman, George Cole, and bands Sideline Bluegrass Band and Special Consensus. In 2019, Country Music Legend Marty Stuart invited Miles and his brother, Teo, to perform with him and his band, His Fabulous Superlatives, at Ryman Auditorium. They also performed at the Grand Ole Opry in August 2019. The brothers were 2019 Freshgrass finalists in the fiddle and mandolin categories.
Miles is also an accomplished contest fiddler, having won several contests in California and nationally. He is the 2019 Youth Grand Master Fiddlers Champion and the 2019 National Fiddle Contest Jr. Swing Division Champion, as well as the 2019 runner-up in the CA State Fiddle Contest Open Division.
Miles began Suzuki violin at the age of 3 and switched to bluegrass fiddle when he was 6. He began his studies with Catherine Manning of Manning Music in Berkeley, CA, and currently studies with fiddler Darol Anger, 5-time Grand National Fiddle Champion Tristan Clarridge of The Bee-Eaters, and jazz violinist Mads Tolling. He plays a mean round of chess and isn’t afraid to dive for the disc in ultimate frisbee.
