Ten Things

Ten things to love about Covid:

1. Reexamining what’s important in your life. Let’s face it. The pandemic has forced us all to confront our unresolved demons and hopefully deal with them because we have been faced with the specter of possible death. That specter has always been there but our modern technolgical society tends to ignore it. Unfortunately, this pandemic has discouraged hugs and other social contact which is essential to dealing with the specter.

2. Song writing. I don’t know about you but I have composed more new songs than usual during this pandemic and I’ll bet there are a lot of really good new songs out there now as a result of the different circumstances Covid has created.

3. You never have to change your socks.

I’m a goin’ to that better land where everything is right.
Where the hand outs grow on bushes and they sleep out every night.
Won’t have to wash my overalls nor even change my socks.
And the little stream of whiskey comes runnin’ down the rocks

4. Play music and nobody knows how badly. It has been a very long time since I really picked and sang with other like minded bluegrass fans. At home I practice more than ever but it still sounds terrible. This should be the perfect woodshop opportunity for me but it’s not. I am trying, in the comfort of my home and with internet sources I know that I could only have dreamed of years ago, to perfect my playing enough to not be embarrased when I flub my next jam solo. But why should I deny my jamming buddies the experience that are accustomed to? They are always forgiving of my shortcomings. That’s why I miss our person to person jams so much.

5. Drink copiuos amounts of alcohol in the privacy of your own bubble with no social disapproval (almost like being at a bluegrass festival except a good festival is the opposite of a bubble)

6. Wait did I say ten?
