This Bluegrass Life – “7 Habits of Highly Successful Musicians”

Jan 11, 2020 | Welcome Column

OK, it’s Saturday, the 2nd Saturday of 2020. I predict that everyone in the world will have 20/20 vision for one year. And I predict that anybody who is anybody in the world of bluegrass is and will be at the CBA’s “Great 48” in Bakersfield, California, pick’in and singing away the days and nights until it’s over. Yes, the “Great 48,” that is the annual CBA indoor pick’in party that starts early in the day and lasts until the wee hours of the morning. And now, yes, you are there, and you are not reading this. That’s because you are testing yourself in numerous bluegrass “jams.” And when you are not doing that you are out on the streets of Bakersfield, chasing down the ghosts of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard. Or you are taking a nap.

But, but, but, just in case you are taking a break from jamming, and happen to go to today’s CBA website, here is a short Welcome Column. Here are seven habits to make you become a highly successful musician (if you aren’t already). These habits probably won’t qualify you to perform at Carnegie Hall, but they may pave the way to you not being lost in your next bluegrass jam. Here they are.

THE 7 HABITS

#1 – Practice.

#2 – Practice, practice.

#3 – Practice, practice, practice.

#4 – Practice, practice, practice, practice.

#5 – Practice, practice, practice, practice, practice.

#6 – Practice, practice, practice, practice, practice, practice.

#7 – Practice, practice, practice, practice, practice, practice, practice.
