AMERICA & ENGLAND – A couple of hundred plus years ago some Englishmen came to America to discover new things. They discovered that they didn’t want to be Englishmen, and then they became Americans. Then they couldn’t get along with England, so there was a war. They couldn’t get along.
AMERICANS & INDIANS – At first the Americans were friends with the American Indians. After a while they couldn’t get along because the Indians wouldn’t just give the Americans their land. So there was a war(s), and the Americans stole the Indian’s land fair and square. They couldn’t get along.
AMERICANS & MEXICANS – At first the Americans and Mexicans were friends. After a while they couldn’t get along because the Mexicans wouldn’t just give the Americans their land. So there was a war(s), and the Americans stole the Mexican’s land fair and square. They couldn’t get along. (NOTE: My father-in-law is 100% Mexican, I am 100% all white American, and we get along)
AMERICANS & AMERICANS – After the Indian and Mexican wars, the Americans got along with each other. After a while they couldn’t get along because of disagreements about slavery and States Rights. So there was a war. They couldn’t get along.
THEN THERE ARE BANDS – Bands that break up because band members don’t get along. At first they do get along, but then, okay, you know what happens. Flatt and Scruggs left Monroe’s band, then Bill had them banned from the Opry (for a time). Bill didn’t have 150 Bluegrass Boys that came and went just because they wanted to say that they were in his band (at least that’s my opinion). The stories of other bands breaking up go on and on (you know who you are). They can’t get along.
RIGHT NOW – Half of Americans are shaking the political peach tree, and the other half are singing, “You don’t like my peach(es), don’t shake my tree. Get out of my orchard, let my peach(es) be (think, “Sittin’ On Top of the World”). Both sides can’t get along.
Stop and think about it. How many people during your life’s journey have you had a heated argument with, and then parted ways? So what’s all this have to do with the World of Bluegrass?
Since you did or didn’t ask, I’m going to the CBA Fall Campout October 14 – 20th at the fairgrounds in Lodi. Why? BECAUSE THAT’S WHERE EVERYBODY GET ALONG! At least for one week.
Lodi? Yes Lodi, California. The band, “Credence Clearwater Revival” put Lodi on the map nationally. In 2015 Lodi was awarded the “2015 Wine Region of the Year.” Many other significant things have occurred that make Lodi an interesting place.
But more importantly, Lodi spelled backwards is, “Idol.” Yep, and that’s what we’ll be doing at the just-around-the-corner CBA Fall Campout = Worshipping All-things Bluegrass!
