Masha Goodman Crawford & Geff Crawford

Geff Crawford has been playing fiddle for nearly 50 years, plus banjo, guitar, ukulele, jaw harp, and more. He has played with many amazing musicians over the years – Ewan MacColl, Peggy Seeger, Tom Paley, Frank George, Walt Koken, to name just a few. In addition to performing and teaching fiddle, Geff is a magician member of the famous Magic Castle in LA. Retired after 32 years of teaching, he enjoys working on complex calculus problems, and writes some very funny songs.

Masha Goodman Crawford has been playing clawhammer banjo, Irish tinwhistle, and calling dances for over 45 years, and singing and dancing since she was about 5. A founding caller for the Chicago Barn Dance Company, Masha has performed and taught at festivals across the US and Europe, including 20+ years at the Strawberry Music Festival. She studied Theatre and Ethnomusicology at Northwestern University, Folklore at Indiana U in Bloomington, and Software Engineering at UC Davis.

Masha and Geff have taught at the CBA Music Camp many times, including three years as instructors for the Old-Time Stringband morning intensive. When not teaching, they perform as the duo “Old Soles”, weaving old-time Appalachian with traditional Celtic, folk and blues, harmonies and humor. They’re thrilled to be teaching this new offering, and we’re thrilled to have them!
